The Power of Smiling – 2nd Part

written by

Did you read last week’s article about the great power of smiling? If not, read about it here. This week I’m going to explore the subject from a less known perspective: the Buddhist view. It might be a little unfamiliar if you don’t have experience with meditation, but don’t worry, it’s as simple as SMILING. 🙂

Bhante Vimalaramsi, a Buddhist monk, says in his speeches that smiling provides a clear, healthy and positive mind. Also he states  that we should always have a smile on our faces because this contributes to maintaining a happy attitude inside.

“Whenever you find yourself not smiling, start smiling. ”

and

“Smile with your mind, with your mouth, with your eyes.” Bhante Vimalaramsi

He teaches smiling as part of The Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation, a way to retrain the mind and seed smiling deep into the mind. His technique is a 6 step flow, called the 6 Rs, that allows one to observe the unwholesome thoughts in the mind and replace them with a more wholesome state – smiling. This is his technique:

However, if you find this technique too complicated, you can keep only the SMILING part. I only put the complete frame here so you can understand where smiling meditation comes from.
